LOCAL FAMILY OPEN CHARITY SHOP IN MEMORY OF NANNY JULIE

Jade & her father David to raise funds for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust

‘Nanny Julie’s’ charity shop throws open its doors on Friday, 9th March 2019 on Hungate, Beccles to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, a condition that Jade Dickerson’s daughter Layla was born with.  David Dickerson after losing his wife, Layla’s beloved grandmother Julie, decided to leap into action and open a charity shop in her memory

“As a family we feel very passionate about raising money for cystic fibrosis and opening ‘Nanny Julie’s’ is our next step. Our granddaughter/ daughter Layla was diagnosed with it when she was only two weeks old. Layla started treatment and we had to take her to Norfolk and Norwich every Monday for the first six months of her life. She had to start treatment straight away which including taking enzymes every time she had a bottle , antibiotics twice a day, numerous amounts of vitamins, nebulisers plus daily physio to move all the mucus in her lungs. Now at the age of 5 she has to have between 20-25 tablets a day just to digest her food, all of this she will have to take for the rest of her life. She is very lucky and has a wonderful team behind her but living with this awful illness is heartbreaking we have nights where we are up most the night while she coughs and coughs to get the sticky mucus up in her lungs and she coughs to the point where she is sick, its heartbreaking because there is nothing you can do to take it away. She is lucky and can lead a fairly normal life however there are aspects of it that are not as carefree as her friends. We are fully aware of what the future could hold but this is why we are doing this and trying to raise as much money as possible to fund research to give our little girl and all the other cf suffers out there as much hope as possible for cure.

Our families have so far raised £15,000 since she was born and we really want to continue. We have decided to call the shop Nanny Julie’s after my late wife who passed away 18 months ago, Layla was very close to her grandmother and they absolutely adored each other. She would be so proud of her and how she copes everyday. Her wish was that a cure could be found and we feel this is the perfect way to keep her memory alive. “
